Call and an “Investigator” will get back to you. They investigate complaints about the Provincial government, local government, hospitals, universities, colleges, public schools, governing bodies of professionals and occupational associations. For example; if you are having trouble dealing with your social worker or rehabilitation worker, you may want to give this number a call.*Note: The Ombudsman in unable to deal with complaints against the Federal government, for example; Employment Insurance.

South Hill Public Library

Counselling, workshops and alcohol and drug awareness, parent education, peer groups and support groups, referrals and presentations are offered.

South Community Health Office

Call in for hours. Alcohol and drug counselling services are available.

Société Inform’ Elles Society

Inform Ells is a free provincial service. It provides emotional support, information and referrals to all French-speaking women living in BC, and who:- Are abused- Are feeling isolated and need to talk- Are re-assessing their lives and would like guidance- Have questions on parenting, health or legal issues- Need information in French/English about community resources in BC.

Social Insurance Number (SIN) - Human Resources Development Canada

Varied hours. Phone or drop-in to any Service Canada office. It is best to drop in because the phone line is usually busy and it can be frustrating. You need a SIN number in order to work in and receive Employment Benefits (EI).Bring your birth certificate or other documentation that says you can work legally in Canada. There is no cost for the first card, but a replacement card will cost you $10.00.

Whether you are just starting out, or changing direction, our Case Managers can make referrals to career exploration programs to get you heading down the right path. Book an appointment by phone or in person.

Sexual Assault Recovery Anonymous (SARA)

Offers self-help support groups for survivors of childhood sexual abuse. This includes groups for adults and Sarateen for female victims ages 13 to 18. Meetings are held at several locations on the lower mainland. All inquiries and meetings are confidential and first names only are used at the group level. Seniors Services Society

Seniors Services Society is a non profit agency located in New Westminster, part of Metro Vancouver BC, that provides local and provincial programs and services that support older adults to live as independently as possible.

Self-Help Resource Association of BC (SHRA)

SHRA provides information, resources and support to self-help groups, peer support initiatives, networks and they work for social and systemic change through peer support approaches.

Self Mutilators Anonymous - (SMA)

Self-Harm? Do you have a problem with self harm? If so, there is a place for you…SMA (self mutilators anonymous) is a group of young women who meet once a week to share their experience, strength, and hope with each other, that they may solve their problem and help others to recover from physical self-mutilation.

Sancta Maria House

For young women 18 years and older with social problems. Length of stay varies. Often, the program is full, so you may have to be put on a waiting list.

Salvation Army Thrift Store

Offers clothing, small appliances, toys, games, furniture, etc, at a really cheap price.

Salvation Army Community & Family Services

An ongoing, open group that provides support and addressess issues that may be coming up in recovery. It creates a safe space for clients to discuss any issues that may be related to sexual orientation and/or gender identity. Sage Transition House - North Shore Crisis Services Society

Transition house for women and children fleeing abuse. General support, 30 day stay. 24 hour crisis line. Outreach services for women experiencing abuse, present or in the past living on the North Shore. SAFER (Suicide Attempt Counselling Service)

Provides support and counselling for individuals, aged 13 yrs. and up, who exhibit suicidal behavior, and for people whose lives have been affected by suicide.
